Google Docs (Drive) is a great way to collaborate in real time with many other people. I encourage my students to use it for their group projects and even individual projects as well as it allows me to see the documents and make corrections. Google Docs is not the only cloud collaboration tool out there, but in my experience, many people already have a Gmail account. With that already, Google Docs is very easy to use.
