Camara Jamaica, through its technology centre, “The Hub”, located at Penwood High School, trains youths in the community, mainly from the Government’s CAP Initiative, to repair and refurbish used computers for redistribution into educational facilities throughout the island and eventually the Caribbean.
Camara has been in the news lately because they have a very simple goal, and it seems to be closer to being achieved. The goal: get technology into the classroom. This goal is being achieved by Camara which is a non-profit, volunteer driven project. Since its conception, Camara has delivered over 1,000 computers to 126 Schools and has trained over 300 Teachers! Hopefully this trend catches on in other countries and other volunteers step up!
